8 TIPS FOR MAKING YOUR AIRPORT EXPERIENCE EASIER

1. For frequent travelers, PreCheck and Global Entry are must-haves. With these services, you can pass through security quickly and easily at 130 airports without removing your shoes or other items. Global Entry also allows you to bypass the lines at immigration by using a passport scanner. This means that you can pick up your luggage and be the first in line for a taxi, Uber, Lyft, or private car. With PreCheck and Global Entry, traveling is more convenient and efficient than ever before.

2. Traveling can be a stressful experience, especially when it comes to packing your luggage. To avoid any unnecessary headaches and additional costs, we highly recommend that you weigh your luggage before you leave home. An inexpensive luggage scale can help you to determine if your bag is overweight, allowing you to make adjustments and transfer heavier items between your checked bag and carry-on, or leave a few items behind if needed. This can save you from having to pay those hefty overweight baggage fees. Weighing your luggage beforehand can help to ensure that your travel experience is as seamless and stress-free as possible.

3. Check in online for your upcoming flight! When you check in online you can avoid long lines at the airport and save time. You can check in up to 24 hours prior to departure and download your boarding pass directly to your cell phone. If you are only carrying a carry-on, you can avoid the kiosk or counter altogether and proceed to the security line. Be sure to check in prior to your flight, as some airlines may take away your reserved seat assignment if you have not checked-in in advance, especially on highly overbooked flights.

4. Check your flight status before they head to the airport. A quick glance at the airline app or website can provide valuable information such as whether the flight is still predicted to be “on time” if there are any weather delays or warnings, or if there has been a cancellation. Additionally, clients may be able to check for last-minute seat-switching options. To make the process even smoother, we suggest downloading the airline app onto your cell phone if it is available. Most airlines will also text you flight status updates if you sign up on their websites. Furthermore, it is important to have the toll-free numbers of your airline, travel insurance company, and travel agent saved in your cell phone

5. It is essential to have all your necessary documents and items in hand before you approach the airport check-in counter. This includes your driver’s license or passport, printed boarding pass from your online check-in (or confirmation code), and credit card for any payment related to checking luggage. It is important to be prepared to save time and make the experience more pleasant for not only the airline agent but also the other travelers in line. If you prefer to have a paper boarding pass, the airline agent can provide one for you at the luggage counter.

6. Navigating security screenings can be a daunting experience, but with the right preparation, it doesn't have to be. Before you get to the checkpoint, be sure to stow all items in your carry-on bag, except for your ID and boarding pass. This includes any phones, keys, or cash you may have. Once you reach the checkpoint, quickly remove your shoes (unless you have PreCheck or Global Entry), and take out your laptop and toiletry baggie. If you are checking a bag, make sure to pack all your toiletries in it to save time. Place your carry-on directly on the belt, take a deep breath, smile, and proceed. With a positive attitude and the right preparation, you can survive security screenings with ease.

7. Once you have gone through Security, it is a good idea to double-check the departure monitors to make sure your gate hasn't changed. Walk directly to your gate to ensure everything is still accurate and on time. Depending on how much time you have before boarding, you can then explore the airport a bit and get something to eat, drink, and visit the restroom. If you are a member of your airline's lounge, you may also take advantage of that. It is important to stay close to your gate so you can hear any last-minute announcements. Most importantly, keep your cool - you will be on the plane to your perfect vacation destination soon!

8. Traveling home just got a lot easier! With Mobile Passport Control (MPC) now available at 40 airports, eligible travelers can avoid long customs lines. MPC allows travelers to submit their documents, photos, and customs declaration information through a free and secure app on their smartphone or other mobile device. This streamlines the entry process and reduces passport control inspection time and overall wait time. No pre-approval is required and travelers who use the MPC app will no longer have to complete a paper form or use an APC kiosk. Enjoy shorter wait times, less congestion, and efficient processing with MPC!
